Material: Hot dip galvanized steel brackets are made of steel that has been coated with a layer of zinc through a hot-dipping process. Aluminum brackets, on the other hand, are made of aluminum, which is naturally corrosion-resistant.

 

Strength and Durability: Steel brackets are generally stronger and more rigid than aluminum brackets. Steel has a higher tensile strength, allowing it to withstand heavier loads and harsh weather conditions. Aluminum brackets are lightweight but may not be as strong as steel, especially for larger solar arrays or in areas prone to high winds or snow loads.

 

Corrosion Resistance: Galvanized steel brackets have an excellent resistance to corrosion due to the zinc coating. The zinc layer acts as a sacrificial barrier, protecting the underlying steel from rust and corrosion. Aluminum, on the other hand, is naturally resistant to corrosion, making aluminum brackets suitable for environments with high humidity or near the coast where saltwater exposure is common.

 

Weight: Aluminum brackets are significantly lighter than steel brackets. This lighter weight can simplify installation, reduce shipping costs, and minimize the load on the roof structure. Steel brackets may require additional reinforcement to support the added weight.

Cost: Aluminum brackets generally tend to be more expensive than galvanized steel brackets. The cost difference is mainly due to the material itself and the manufacturing processes involved.

 

When choosing between hot dip galvanized steel brackets and aluminum brackets for solar panel mounting, consider factors such as the local climate, installation location, budget, and specific project requirements. For regions with harsh weather conditions and high durability demands, steel brackets might be a better choice. Aluminum brackets are lighter and more resistant to corrosion, making them suitable for installations in coastal areas or environments with high humidity.
